Professional Development by GTC3

Geo Academy

The GeoAcademy, offered by the Geospatial Technology Community College Consortium (GTC3), is a professional development online program designed to introduce and expand the use of geospatial tools and analysis across diverse professional roles. Participants will learn how geospatial technologies can be applied within their own work—whether supporting student learning, advancing institutional research, evaluating programs, or enhancing library and instructional resources.  GeoAcademy emphasizes hands-on learning, practical applications, and collaboration. By the end of the online program, participants will have gained both foundational skills and real-world strategies to integrate geospatial tools into their professional practice.

GeoFellows

The Geospatial Technology Consortium of Community Colleges (GTC3) is pleased to announce the GeoFellows Program, a professional development opportunity designed to support faculty in advancing applied or research projects in geospatial technology.

Selected fellows will receive a stipend and structured support to complete a project within one academic semester. Projects may focus on applied geospatial problem-solving, innovative instructional resources, or research that enhances geospatial teaching and learning.

Through this program, fellows will contribute to the growth of geospatial education by sharing outcomes with the GTC3 community and beyond.

GeoED-C

GeoEdC (Geospatial Educators Certification) is for educators (middle school through college/university) who are seeking to increase their pedagogical skill-set and/or acquire a document certifying that they have the requisite technical skills, competencies, and knowledge to teach geospatial technologies (GST). GeoEdC is intended for educators with intermediate or above levels of GST experience who teach or are planning to teach GST. Example requisite skills include (but are not limited to) the ability to:

  • Identify data format types (e.g., Vector versus Raster).
  • A working knowledge of geospatial software, such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or other GST software.
  • Describe coordinate systems.
  • Change layer symbology and visualize data in a map, graph, or chart.
  • Create or acquire geospatial data and add that data to a map frame.
  • Create, update, and utilize attribute tables.
  • Query, select, buffer, and other fundamental geoprocessing tasks.
  • Identify and use different editing and geoprocessing tools.
